A Story of Unity and Togetherness
Jovance Beauty & Wellness Studios is a unique business that began as the award-winning Jovance Salon, founded in 2004 by Michael and Maya Parker.
The salon has always been dedicated to merging Michael’s experience in lean management (a business management approach that grew out of Japan and creates superior operational excellence) into the beauty industry and creating an entirely new and unique business model, operational flow, and team-based structure which was completely unheard of at that time, and still today!
With this mission in mind, they began meeting with four stylists, integrating their ideas to become one team united by their shared desire to create a professional and family-like atmosphere.
Michael and Maya wanted to create an environment where clients could feel refreshed and renewed after leaving the salon. They eventually settled on the name "Jovance," which was based on the french word Jouvence which means restoration of youth. They adjusted their tagline to be the ‘Restoration of You!’
Jovance Salon quickly grew due to its efficiency of services and care for clients who felt a part of the salon family. Being one of the only multicultural salons on the west coast providing diverse services in an upscale, customer-centric, team-based atmosphere truly made Jovance one of a kind.

MRS. ETTA HAWKINS
Did you know it was a heart-to-heart conversation Michael had with his Godmother (Mrs. Etta Hawkins) that gave him the final inspiration to start putting the idea of Jovance into a reality?
The late Mrs. Etta Hawkins always promoted love and togetherness and would be so happy to see Jovance still working together almost 2 decades later.
Jovance Moves to Richmond
After spending over 4 years in Vallejo, California, Jovance moved to Richmond, California to a better location that allowed them to serve the North Bay, East Bay, and almost every part of the Bay Area.
In Richmond, Jovance expanded its services and grew a dynamic team that provided a beauty experience unlike any other salon in the Bay Area. Jovance's reputation began to grow as the salon that could do any hair type and was committed not to have you in the salon all day due to its efficiency and speed.
Jovance Expands to Pinole
There was a buzz around the Bay Area that Jovance had yet again expanded and now for the first time had a location that was designed and built from the ground up in a brand new building. The City of Pinole, California welcomed Jovance with open arms and was amazed at the community support and fanfare surrounding this award-winning business.
For the first time in Jovance's history, there were 2 locations that bore the name Jovance. Jovance kept its Richmond location and now enjoyed a brand new location in Pinole, California.
The Jovance team continued to grow and prosper. There were some new faces and talents added to Jovance, but the enduring culture of teamwork, professionalism, and customer service still stood strong.
Beauty from a Pandemic
In 2020, Jovance like the rest of the world was broadsided by a global pandemic that left them looking for answers. Out of all business industries across the country, the salon industry was just about brought to its knees. Many, many, many, salons did not survive this unprecedented time including many other businesses that depended on people physically entering a physical facility. Jovance stood empty for months and the team was left trying to make ends meet for their families.
After numerous state-mandated shutdowns, Michael and Maya took advantage of the opportunity to begin reimagining what Jovance could be. Due to rising costs, tax implications, and growing debt, Jovance strongly considered closing its doors forever.
Nevertheless, in the midst of all of this turmoil and challenge, something beautiful was born. Interestingly, the conditions of the pandemic brought Jovance full circle to its original mission, beauty and wellness.
The Next Chapter
After much preparation and planning, Jovance Salon made the move to officially transition to Jovance Beauty and Wellness Studios.
This new model would allow Jovance to continue in a whole new business model. This business model would allow Jovance to keep the team together under a new legal structure in which all of the team would start their own businesses, but work under one roof preserving the unity and culture they had built together.
After much preparation and planning, Jovance Salon made the move to officially transition to Jovance Beauty & Wellness Studios. This new location includes a wellness bar offering health supplements, food items promoting beauty from within, and access to beauty and health professionals based on your needs. Each professional owner operates their own business from their beautifully designed studio within the new Jovance Beauty and Wellness Studio location!
Jovance's mission is now to promote unity and togetherness in all areas of the business while embarking on a new adventure that is destined to be epic. We believe that it is possible to have a heart of unity in a cut-throat individualistic industry without being divided!
